In many ways, the rapidly changing landscape of technology and the increasingly frantic pace of living have reshaped how students like ourselves, youth and all the members of our community stay connected, access resources, and support one another. It has always been Seesaw’s mission to champion accessibility, communication and collaboration in our work, devising theatre for a wide audience of young people. This year, we are centering “Interconnection” as our season theme, with the aim of embracing the question: what strides can we make collectively to bolster our commitment to our audiences and to each other as a team?
This past spring, we introduced several new positions to our executive board, including a Company Manager (Aria Narasimhan), and a Music Coordinator (Elizabeth Hare). These new roles serve to more clearly define existing responsibilities through established positions, and better enable our team to support one another. This season, which marks our 15th anniversary, we are the biggest team of students in Seesaw’s history.
For our annual Inclusive Theatre Festival, Seesaw welcomes two collaborators, Sabrina Zhang and Sophie Beveridge. For the festival, we aim to amplify many voices within the accessible arts both by promoting different skillsets and backgrounds when selecting our presenters and by broadening our audience with efforts to reach more members of our community. For our Winter Mainstage Show (directed by Lila Levy and produced by Jools Gray) and our Spring Touring Show (directed by Laurel Eith and produced by Katie Miller) we will reflect on the previous experience of our teams and cast members collectively as we refine our rehearsal process and our outreach efforts. Additionally, we will hold several workshops throughout the year as an integral aspect of the devising process for our shows. These strides taken to center both the youth and the creatives that make our work possible will allow us to bring more personal, sustainable, and sensational experiences to our audiences.
